Salt Spring Forum Presents Author Kate Harris
What compelled BC writer Kate Harris to embark on an epic journey, cycling over ten thousand kilometers of the Silk Road – the ancient network of trade routes linking Asia with the Middle East and Europe?
Kate Harris, the author of the new travel memoir Lands of Lost Borders, joins the Salt Spring Forum for a wide-ranging conversation about writing, travel, and much more.
Cycling the Silk Road first in western China and then from Turkey to the Himalayas – and crossing all kinds of borders – Harris’ book weaves adventure and deep reflection with the history of science and exploration.
Harris has also written for The Walrus, Canadian Geographic, and The Georgia Review, among other publications. A Rhodes scholar and Morehead-Cain scholar, she has won several awards for her nonfiction writing. She lives off-grid in a log cabin in Atlin, British Columbia.
Tickets are on sale at ArtSpring and Salt Spring Books. $15 – 2018 Forum Members; $20 – General Public. (Students and low-income residents contact saltspringforum@gmail.com.)
