Salt Spring Forum: Robot Futures – Artificial Intelligence & Humanity

05/12/2018 7:30 pm

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an everyday part of our lives—without most of us even realizing it. From ATMs to Siri to algorithms that influence content on our Facebook feeds or Google searches, AI is spreading quickly.

What biases might AI have, and how might they affect us? How many jobs will be lost due to automation? What if AI begins to evolve on its own? What is the future of AI—and humanity?

Lucy Suchman, Professor of Anthropology at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom, joins the Salt Spring Forum for a timely discussion about artificial intelligence.

Dr. Suchman is a world-leading expert in artificial intelligence. Prior to joining academia, she was a Senior Scientist at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center in California. Dr. Suchman’s current research examines the future of robots in healthcare and warfare. The recipient of numerous academic awards, she is author of two books published by Cambridge University Press.

Should you be afraid of artificial intelligence? Can we control the rise of the machines? Join Lucy Suchman to find out!
